I have been in clinical practice since 1990, first in Maryland, and later in Virginia and the District of Columbia. I have had the privilege of working with scores of adolescents, parents, and couples over the past 30+ years. I remain licensed in all three jurisdictions, and I am also "PSYPACT" certified so I can practice teletherapy with clients in any state that has approved PSYPACT legislation (which at this point is most states).
I received my PhD in Psychology from the University of Vermont in 1987, and then completed an NIMH postdoctoral fellowship in family process and psychopathology. Following that I took a full time faculty position in clinical psychology at the Catholic University of America. For many years I served as the Director of Clinical Training, and I taught graduate-level courses, provided clinical supervision for individual and family therapy, and conducted research on suicidal behavior in adolescents, parenting, family process, and more. I'm currently a Professor Emeritus within the psychology department, where I continue to be active on a part-time basis.
